Hey all,

I've been an avid blood donor for a long time.  I always figured I had plenty to share and it was just taking up space in my body anyway.  Awhile back I went in and was asked to do a platelet donation, it was a bit more rigorous a procedure but I was told it could help more people so a went for it.  I did not respond well.  They got the platelets out just fine but afterward I would up getting pass out-y.  I fainted at the blood center but they got me the juice and tiny cookies my body so craved and after about 45 minutes I appeared good to go.  I made it home safe and they took it easy for an hour before I had to start getting ready to head out so I went to go wash up in the bathroom.  The next thing I know I wake up in a pool of my own blood on the bathroom floor (scary right?).  I had passed out, fell over, and hit the side of my tub with my face cutting my forehead a bit on the metal edge of the shower door track.  My face was out of commission for awhile but thank goodness for small miracles, I'm handsome again! (just with a little scar on my forehead right at the hairline and convention season is coming up again and though I've been recovering from face injury I've been plotting and planning something I've wanted to do for quite awhile now...  It's a surprise :)

Vash Hair

2 min read
So I'm doing a Vash hair tutorial and I've realized that over the years I've done that hair so many different ways each with their own unique qualities that make them awesome. Some more clearly distinct spikes and some w/ a more natural approach and feel. Some ways took roughly 45 minutes to do and others I could bang out in 5-15 minutes.

I've narrowed these styles into two catagories: The Needle Noggin & The Broom Head.

The "Needle Noggin" certainly takes the most time of any of the styles but when it can be done right, Hot Damn does it look good.

The "Broom Head" is quicker, easier, and a lot more comfortable to wear out over longer periods of time.

But which one is my favorite? This gave me pause but I realize that one of my favorite elements of cosplay is a sense of realism in the adaptation of a fictional character to flesh & blood and there's not to much realism in a rough and tumble carefree gunslinger  spending 45 minutes w/ a can of hairspray and a hairdryer.  The "Broom Head" look seems to have that more natural appearance that a strive for when doing the hair and I think it's truer to the character for that reason.

Now I need a haircut...

Fanime 2012 was such a total blast! I had an amazing time and got to wear my updated Tick costume around for a bit and debut my first attempt at the first avenger.  People really responded well to my Captain America costume and I almost blew a gasket when one fan said that I "looked like if Nathan Fillion played Captain America".  Whether you agree with that or not it blew my mind and absolutely made my day.  I also got a few photo ops with some mini Captain America fans and it warmed my heart to put smiles on the faces of children like that.  I feel so blessed to do what I do and it makes me want to work even harder to create works that people can enjoy like that.

My con season is rounding the corner and I'll be taking a bit of a break to work on some theatre stuff but I'm gonna keep on chugging along. There are so many costumes I'm still wanting to do but with any luck you'll all get to see them soon...

With convention season looming ever closer like a big ol' loomy thing I've turned back to DeviantArt to help motivate my sorry behind into getting all of my cosplay shenanigans in order!

Expect more things to come as I have plans... oh so many plans...
